Film Locations

Part of the appeal of movies filmed in Scotland is the spectacular scenery of mountains and lochs seen in the background, leading to the perennial question: "where was that scene filmed?"

The many sandy beaches around Morar have been a popular choice for movie location filming for many years, the area surrounding the Glenfinnan Monument and the nearby railway viaduct is also a popular place for location filming, especially the viaduct.

The interior scenes of the church were filmed at the church next to the A830 at Polnish near Lochailort. Most of the beach scenes in Local Hero were filmed on this beach. Carry on up the beach keeping the sand dunes on your left until you reach the top of the beach. The filming location for Ben's Shack was nestled between the sand dunes on your left and the rocky promontory in front of you at the end of the beach.
